Akasagarbha Bodhisattva Mahāsattva is the one who presides over wisdom, merit, and wealth among the countless bodhisattvas. His wisdom, merit, and abundance are said to be as vast and boundless as the sky itself, and he is able to fulfill all virtuous wishes of those who uphold proper conduct. Because he brings immeasurable benefit to countless beings, he is known by the sacred name “Akasagarbha,” the Treasury of Space. Akasagarbha Bodhisattva possesses the power to bestow happiness and benefit. “Garbha” (Treasury) represents infinite merit and wisdom, while “Ākāśa” (Space) signifies vastness. The Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra explains that Akasagarbha is like a wealthy benefactor; whenever suffering beings approach him, he grants relief and aid. Therefore, Akasagarbha Bodhisattva is a bodhisattva who delights in saving and supporting all sentient beings.
